About Land Cruiser Heritage Museum:

The Land Cruiser Heritage Museum (LCHM) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring adventure while preserving and celebrating the history of the Toyota Land Cruiser. The goal is to acquire and display one of every model Land Cruiser ever produced and share stories that exemplify the community that gives this global icon its legendary persona.

Job Overview:

The LCHM is seeking a Resident Expert to support the museum foundation in maintaining the world’s most significant collection of Toyota Land Cruisers. The Resident Expert will play a vital role in the showcase and stewardship of heritage Land Cruisers to ensure their long-term preservation and public accessibility. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Land Cruiser history, mechanical systems, engine types, global varieties and variances in Land Cruiser production. This role requires a dynamic individual with excellent written + oral communication, and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will be passionate about customer service and will be eager to impart an exceptional experience to every guest who visits the museum or participates in any of our programs.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum, the Resident Expert manages the visitor services desk and all components of visitor relations, including museum retail store, leading guided tours, and training volunteers/docents in providing excellent customer service to visitors.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Protect the legal, financial, and moral well-being of the museum and foundation
  • Be a student, be a teacher, be a leader
  • Vehicle management - to include but not limited to procurement, maintenance, display readiness, transport as needed, buying/selling, etc. Monitor and maintain vehicle appearance and preservation.
  • Assist with documentation of collections and loans
  • Support the retail museum store as part of visitor services and engagement. This includes managing daily store operations, merchandising displays/storage, and inventory management.
  • Oversee acquisition and transport of Land Cruisers with cross country travel as needed
  • Ensure LCHM showroom and displays are clean, accurate, and reflect the mission of the museum
  • Work with museum leadership to assess, evaluate, and improve the visitor experience
  • Track and report on visitation, forecast visitor trends, and manage data related to museum membership, mailing lists, visitor survey responses, guest books, etc.
  • Provide support for scheduling and executing group tours, support marketing and PR-related visitor engagement
  • Manage and train volunteers/docents in providing excellent customer service
  • Provide support for executing museum events, programs and receptions, which may include work on weekends and evenings
  • Foster relationships with vendors, public and private Land Cruiser collectors, industry partners, and the online Land Cruiser community, setting this role as a reputable resource
  • Provide written daily summaries of museum activities to be emailed no later than 8:00pm. Daily summaries should include information about work completed, work in progress, and include any photographs that might be relevant to support or illustrate the points made.

Qualifications / Preferences:

  • Previous automotive industry and customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff members
  • Be highly organized, self-motivated, reliable, and resourceful
  • Valid Utah Driver’s license free from major infractions
  • Ability to load, secure, and operate towing truck and trailer preferred
  • Ability to operate a forklift preferred
  • Visual / graphic design experience a plus
  • Marketing experience a plus - communication through eblasts/newsletters, social media, and regional event listings
  • Experience with POS systems - Shopify, Square, Paypal etc. a plus

Critical Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Familiarity with social media - including Facebook and Instagram

This is an open position located in Salt Lake City, Utah, calculated at 40 hours per week; position will need to work Saturdays and the occasional evenings based on museum and event hours. This position may be occasionally required to work overtime. This position may require sitting, standing, driving, and carrying intermittent weights of up to 50 lbs.
